Made in Gabon.

As one of the most forested countries in the world, Gabon absorbs more carbon dioxide than it emits. The Central African country boasts hundreds of tree species, including world-famous hardwood trees such as mahogany and ebony, which grow across 12.5 million hectares of sustainably managed forests.

But, up until 2010, when the Gabonese government banned the export of logs, Gabon lacked the necessary infrastructure to transform timber, exporting most of its wood in its raw state. The decision coincided with the opening of the Gabon Special Economic Zone (GSEZ) and the government’s pledge to industrialise the forest sector to increase its contribution to a diversified economy.

This short documentary-style film explores Africa’s first certified carbon-neutral industrial zone, GSEZ, and the steps it has taken to protect its forests while producing local, premium furniture to grow its economy.
